San Francisco, Sep 2 : Apple has settled a lawsuit with developer of apps Kosta Eleftheriou, who asserted that the company had unfairly removed his app from the App Store, resulting in huge financial losses. The lawsuit that was filed in March of last year, claimed Apple prevented the app to be sold, Flicktype, on App Store According to TechCrunch.
The tech giant was accused of using its monopoly to “crush” developers who compete with it by imposing “exploitive fees and the selective application of unconvincing and unreasonable restrictions” the lawsuit claimed.
Eleftheriou has filed the suit in the California’s Superior Court in Santa Clara County.
He claimed that Apple did not just reject the FlickType Apple Watch keyboard app from the App Store, “it then accepted other keyboard apps, including others that made use of an integrated version of FlickType keyboard to publish to the App Store”.
This was in contradiction to Apple’s claim that the FlickType keyboard was the “poor user experience”.
The result was that FlickType’s revenues plummeted from $130,000 in its first month, to just $20,000, as users pointed out “better-rated” similar apps on the App Store.
Eleftheriou has gained a reputation for being able to spot “egregious frauds” within the App Store in a time that Apple has changed a number of its rules to help app developers.
Apple has restored the “Report a problem” button in the App Store.
The company has also revised the App Store’s rules to eliminate fraud and scams, by removing fraudsters.
