New Delhi, Aug 24 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday sat off 97 electric buses that are high-tech.In announcing the launch of these electric buses at the Rajghat Depot, he also said that 8,000 electric buses are in the pipeline to be delivered by 2025 .Delhi will be the city with the highest number of electric buses in India with 1 800 electric buses by the end of November 2023.
“We are phasing out polluting buses , and changing these with electric vehicles.
We have created world-class healthcare and education models in Delhi and it’s time to transform the city’s transport sector into an example for the rest of the world to compare with,” Kejriwal said.
The Chief Minister announced that 153 electric buses are already in operation on the roads of Delhi and the new fleet of 97 will increase the number to 250 , and 50 more will be added by the end of September.”By November 20, 2023, another 1,500 electric buses will be purchased to bring the total number of electric buses to 1,800.Delhi will soon be able to boast of the largest amount of electric buses in any Indian city,” he said.
At the time the year comes to an end of 2025 by 2025, the total number of buses in Delhi will rise by 10,380 of which 80 percent (8,180) will be electric-powered buses.As of now 7,373 buses operate in Delhi comprising DTC as well as Cluster buses.
This is the largest quantity of buses in the fleet of the Transport Department in the history of Delhi, he said.
Concerning women driver in DTC buses that received appointment letters on Tuesday he felicitated all the drivers and stated that another 200 women are scheduled to be trained to become bus drivers and will be able to work in the near future.
