Dallas 24 August : Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster declaration to help free up state resources to 23 counties affected by severe weather , as well as fatal flash flooding. “It’s our understanding that what happened today (Monday) was the second-worst flood to hit the city in Dallas since 1932.” Abbott said at the press conference held here on Tuesday.
“The impact of this storm was significant in this area in Dallas as well as Fort Worth, but across many regions across Texas,” said Governor Greg Abbott.of Texas,” the Governor said.
A 60-year-old female Uber driver was killed in Mesquite east of Dallas in the aftermath of flash flooding swept her vehicle off a bridge Monday, according to Xinhua news agency.
Around 100 homes were reported to be damaged in north Texas and the number is expected to rise the authorities said.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said that based upon preliminary assessments of damage, he was declaring a state of disaster in Dallas County and requesting federal and state assistance.
The Governor urged residents to declare the amount of the damage they sustained using an application called iSTAT that the state will use to decide if the damages is eligible for the state for federal aid.
In order to be eligible for federal aid the state must have to pay a total of $50 million in damage to public property as well as damages to homes of 800 with no flood insurance, according to in a Fox News report.
