New York, Aug 14 : Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie remains in critical state, but has retained his sly sense of humor the son Zafar Rushdie stated in an announcement, according to “Variety”. “Following the assault that occurred on Friday, my father is in critically ill in hospital, receiving continuous medical treatment.
We are very happy that on the 11th of May he was removed from the ventilator and given oxygen was given and he could speak only a few phrases,” the statement said.
“Though his life-altering injuries are serious however, his usual spirit of feisty and fierce sense of humor remains.
We are grateful to all of the fans who bravely came to his defense and provided first aid together with the doctors and police who cared for him and to the outpouring of support and love from all over the world.
“We request your continued patience and respect as the entire family gathers by his bedside to support and support him during this difficult time,” Zafar Rushdie’s statement included, as reported by “Variety”.
Rushdie was repeatedly stabbed by a 24-year-old male known as Hadi Matar, just moments prior to the time he was to give an address at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York on Friday morning (U.S.Eastern Time).
On Friday night the agent for the author, Andrew Wylie, had stated in an email to the “New York Times”: “The news is not good.” Wylie added “Salman is likely to lose one eye as well as the nerves in his arm were cut off and his liver was injured and stabbed.”
