After Isolating Partha Chatterjee, Mamata Goes Soft On Anubrata Mondal

Following the isolation of Partha Chatterjee Mamata is soft with Anubrata Mondal

Kolkata 14 August : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday offered an explicit hint of not being too hard regarding Trinamool Congress’ Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, who is in CBI in custody for possible involvement in the case of cattle smuggling.
“Why did they have to arrest Mondal? What did he done? I am not opposed to central agencies investigating legitimate cases. The Union government has always been against Mondal.Every election he is placed in house detention. His arrest could give birth to thousands of Mondals,” the Chief Minister stated at a pre-Independence day celebration at the end of the day on Sunday.

This was the first time Banerjee has spoken about Mondal after he was detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the 11th of August.

Banerjee stated that her statement was completely opposite to her strong position on Partha Chatterjee who is currently in being held in judicial custody as the main suspect in the multi-crore scam to recruit teachers.

She did not say any word about Chatterjee’s arrest on the Sunday.

The location of the event was in the Behala (West) constituency which is represented in the Assembly by Chatterjee.

In her remarks, Banerjee also flayed the Central agencies for allegedly leaked portions of the findings of the probe to an element of the media who, she said, are using the findings to portray the arrested people as villains, even though they have not been they are found guilty.

The Chief Minister remembered the time when Mondal was happy with the position of organization of the party’s Birbhum district president instead of seeking ministerial, parliamentary or legislative posts.

“I even offered him a seat in the Rajya Sabha a number of times but he declined. He was a staunch supporter of the party even when his wife was in her death’s bed in the hospital, suffering from cancer.” Banerjee said.

Political analysts believe that the Chief Minister’s comments are a clear sign that, while Chatterjee’s career in politics with Trinamool is an end of the line for the moment but it’s not yet over for Mondal at this point.
