Beijing, December 30, : .Authorities in Xi’an are delivering groceries free of charge to Shaanxi’s residents.
This is despite an ongoing lockdown that was imposed following the recent Covid-19 resurgence.On Wednesday, the local government provided free food to 13 million residents of the city.
According to Xinhua, this latest initiative is designed to help residents feel less anxious during lockdown.
On Tuesday, the city received reports of 151 Covid-19-positive cases locally.This brings the current resurgence to 962.
In an attempt to stop the spread of the virus, Xi’an imposed a lockdown across the city on December 23.
Authorities in Xi’an increased their control measures Monday to contain the spread of the disease faster.They ordered all residents to remain indoors, and forbid them from gathering except during nucleic acid testing.
Alle vehicles, except those that are used to control Covid-19 and support people’s livelihoods, have been removed from the roads.
The city started distributing essential foods on Tuesday nights to ensure that there was enough food for the day.
Many people spent the night preparing and packaging vegetables and meats, and then delivering them to their homes so they could get there as quickly as possible.
Qujiang NEW District was able to prepare 130 tonnes meat and 70 tonnes eggs for the 130,000 inhabitants.
Wang Fan, the head of pandemic prevention control in the district, stated that each household has 11 daily needs, including food, water, and eggs.These can be sufficient to last three days.
The city conducted another mass nucleic acids testing at 8 AM Wednesday.Many pandemic workers continued to work throughout the day, despite not having been awake all night.
Wang stated that while we must ensure people are able to get out of the quarantine without too much worry, on the other side, it is important to work fast to eliminate the virus and screen for additional infections.
