New Delhi, December 28th : , Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister, said Tuesday that India wants to become self-reliant in palm oil production.He noted that currently, India has about 3 lakh hectares under cultivation, while research shows that India could have about 28 million hectares.He inaugurated the National Mission on Edible Oil Palm Business Summit in Hyderabad and said that there would be ample resources to support the success of the mission.
He expressed appreciation for the Telangana government’s efforts to improve palm oil production and said that the state is an emerging leader in palm oil production.
Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said that edible oil is something we must import at the moment.The business summit today will be crucial to solve this problem.
He expressed his belief in the mission and said that it would succeed with scientists’ research and farmers’ hard work, and support from the government.This mission is a major contribution to India’s self-reliance.
He said that the government is attempting to increase the production of edible oils by ensuring the procurement and remuneration of oilseed crops.
