“Seems like Kuldeep Yadav wasn’t in the good books of India’s then captain and coach.”

By Chetan Sharma New Delhi, December 14, 2008 : .Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm spinner for Team India, was in peak form but didn’t receive the opportunities to continue. He was ultimately ruled out by Kapil Dev Pandey, his childhood coach.

Yadav’s past two years have been difficult for him after his five-wicket win in Sydney. In 2019, Ravi Shastri, head coach, had called Yadav India’s No.1 spinner overseas.

The UP-born spinner has seen his position in the Indian spinners’ ranks drop over the past few years.Even though he was ranked number one, Indian team management was skeptical of his ability.

Shahbaz Nadeem, a classical left-arm orthodox, was selected from the reserve list, but Yadav who was part the main squad didn’t have a chance to play in October 2019.

Yadav, who has taken 26 wickets in Test cricket at an average 23.85 has failed to secure his place. He was unable to keep up with Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin in Test cricket, which is the most popular format.

Pandey, however, is his coach. His coach Pandey believes that Ashwin and Jadeja were really great, but Kuldeep didn’t have a chance to play when he was doing well.

Because of some disliking/liking issues with his coach and captain at the time, he was forced to withdraw. He was also dropped from the national team before his injury.

Some say his form is a problem, but I’m not sure how many chances he got.He was also taking wickets.Six wickets is not possible in six balls. The coach said that he didn’t know he was in good hands with captain and coach, which was why he did not make it to the match.

Yadav had also ignored his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for the mystery spinner Varunchakravarthy during IPL 14 in India.Later, KKR released Yadav to go to the IPL mega-auction, which was scheduled to take place next year.

Yadav, who has been missing out of action since being ruled out of the second leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 14 due to a knee injury, has finally returned to regular training.

The Chinaman underwent knee surgery in September and has been on the path of recovery at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.

“I had a word with him, he is recovering well and I told him to focus on the future and forget the past.I believe the new coach and captain will give him a chance to prove his mettle once again.

He is a world-class spinner and needs to be in national colours soon,” Kapil Dev Pandey said.

India is scheduled to announce the ODI team for the South Africa series and Kuldeep, if fully fit, has a good chance to make it to the team.

“Let’s hope for the best.If he gets a hundred percent fit then the chances are good,” the coach added.

Yadav joined NCA for injury rehab and has been keeping his fans updated with regular photos and videos. In one of his earlier uploads, the spinner was seen working his batting skills during the net practice at the NCA.
