The Covid-19 epidemic and other global crises have hampered progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This includes important targets to prevent and combat all forms of human trafficking.According to Xinhua, this is increasing victims’ suffering.

Many victims of trafficking have had greater difficulty accessing food, shelter, and legal assistance. She also noted that law enforcement agencies face extra challenges when trying to detect human trafficking due to restrictions on movement and travel in the wake of pandemics.

Human trafficking is a serious crime, which can often be hidden from plain view.It has now retreated into the shadows and dark corners of the Internet.

Mohammed said that traffickers are using information and communication technology to control, recruit, and exploit victims.

Traffickers target girls and women more than men and force them into domestic servitude, forced labor and marriage.

Traffickers are targeting more and more children using social media as a way to find new victims. They also profit from the need for sexual exploitation material and child marriages.

She said that traffickers are particularly vulnerable to migrants and refugees.

She added that trafficking in global supply chain chains is still not being detected and punished due to the lack of reporting tools and frameworks to address this complicated issue.

We must support every country to create strong legal institutions to combat this crime. She stated that survivors should be included in policies to stop and counter human trafficking.

They need to have access to effective remedies and compensation, as well as to bring criminals to justice.

International cooperation is a strong tool for preventing and ending human slavery.

There are many practical solutions to human trafficking that differ widely. It is imperative to provide more technical support and assistance in order to improve the effectiveness of common actions.

Improved cooperation between member states is required for better responses, including information sharing, joint criminal justice operations, and other areas. She said that more must be done to prevent vulnerable migrants being trafficked.

We need to improve coordination among UN entities in order to respond and detect this crime during emergency situations or humanitarian crises. Also, we need to increase private sector involvement so companies are able to manage their procurement in an ethical manner.

We must also encourage and develop partnerships with civil society.Mohammed said that survivors-led organizations can help support holistic anti-trafficking strategies, and victim support services.”
