It took a lot of convincing for Vidya to pursue her dream.

Vidya believes that her mother also wanted to become an actress but couldn’t fulfill her dream, and thus, passed on the dream to her. When Vidya was eight years old, she watched Madhuri Dixit’s dance in “Ek Do Teen” from the movie “Tezaab,” which inspired her to become an actress.

While in college, Vidya auditioned for TV shows, and although her parents were hesitant, they allowed her to pursue her passion.

Her first show did not work out, but she later got a role in “Hum Paanch,” which her parents felt was a safe option. However, she had to leave the show midway due to her attendance in college being affected.

Her parents warned her that she would have to study if she wanted to stay in their house.

Vidya thinks that quitting the show worked in her favor as she began doing advertisements, which led her to explore other opportunities. Her mother was initially worried about her working in the film industry, but she eventually realized that the industry had educated people too.

When asked why she moved to Bollywood instead of doing South Indian films, Vidya explained that she did not have many options at the time. She was offered a role in a Malayalam film with Mohanlal, but it got shelved, and people started calling her “jinxed.” Due to this label, she lost out on other projects, which made her lose faith in herself. However, she continued doing advertisements and met Pradeep Sarkar, who told her on their first meeting that he would make a film with her. Thus, she did not choose “Parineeta”; the movie chose her.

Recently, Pradeep Sarkar passed away, and Vidya, along with other actors such as Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Dia Mirza, and Divyanka Tripathi, among others, attended his last rites.
