A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama that initially, the makers and the team at Amazon Prime Video had decided to release Bawaal on July 27.However, Varun Dhawan and other members of the core team felt that this wouldn’t be the right move because Karan Johar’s film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, is set to release in cinemas on July 28.

Despite KJo’s film being a theatrical release, Varun believed it wouldn’t be fair to premiere his film on OTT (over-the-top) just a day before his mentor’s highly anticipated film hits the screens.Varun holds Karan in high regard as Karan launched Varun in his debut film, Student Of The Year, back in 2012.

Considering the validity of this argument, the decision-making authorities have now decided to release Bawaal on Friday, July 21 instead. The film’s promotions are expected to commence in the first week of July.

Bawaal is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, renowned for his previous works such as Dangal (2016) and Chhichhore (2019), and is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that Bawaal would forgo a theatrical release and premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video.

Interestingly, the film was originally intended for a cinematic release, with a fixed release date of October 6.However, on Monday, June 19, the makers and Amazon Prime Video officially confirmed through a poster that the film would indeed premiere exclusively on the OTT platform.

Meanwhile, reports circulating on the internet suggest that Bawaal will have a premiere at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, in mid-July.These reports claim that Paris plays a significant role in the film, and therefore, the decision was made to hold the premiere in the French capital.
