Its revenue plummeted to nothing after the pandemic.
WhistleDrive, however, acted quickly to make itself a fully-stack urban logistic company that could sail through.
When the world shut down in March 2013, the hope of all businesses, including WhistleDrive (an end-to-end transportation company for employees), crashed.
Rakesh Munnanooru (founder and CEO of WhistleDrive) made an important switch about a month ago when he launched a new type of logistical service in the middle the pandemic.
WhistleDrive was founded by Munnanooru in 2016, with the goal of creating technology-driven solutions to enable India’s smart mobility. They initially focused their driver-on services on the road.
However, they soon realized the importance of tech-backed and efficient solutions to corporate employee transport.
WhistleDrive has created a technology platform that enables intelligent fleet operations using the most recent technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.
Within three years after its initial launch, WhistleDrive has been named among the ‘The Next Global Tech 50″ at World Innovators Meet 2019.
The startup integrates the best technology into employee transport, and claims that it has helped corporates cut their transportation costs up to 23%, while improving efficiency to 95%.
Covid-19, as well as nationwide lockdowns put an end to their operations and reduced revenue to zero.
“We had the idea of venturing into intra-city logistics for a very long time, may be some time in 2022 or near, but Covid-19 left us with no choice but to work on it now, and challenged us to push our limits,” Munnanooru said.
Though the core of employee transportation and enterprise logistics is similar, it takes a whole new conviction and a highly-strategised execution to make things work at the ground level.
It’s been about 18 months since WhistleDrive started providing logistics services and it is already working with leading brands of the country like Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon, Delhivery and Meesho, serving more than 15 cities in the country.
Munnanooru believes that there is still the need for a lot of innovation in the intracity logistics space, especially last-mile deliveries, and hence they are working towards new solutions.
WhistleDrive has raised Rs 72 crore in Series B round from Colosseum Group and claims to be operationally profitable since inception.
“We see a huge need for tech-driven logistics, not just in India, but across the world. We are building ‘WhistleOS’, an operating system that powers urban logistics,” Munnanooru added.
