PM commissions India’s1st indigenous carrier aircraft carrier INS Vikrant

Kochi Sep 2 : The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday officially launched the INS Vikrant India’s first indigenously-built aircraft carrier in the Cochin Shipyard Limited here.
Following the unveiling the Prime Minister stated that India has joined the elite group of nations that have developed their own aircraft carriers.

At the time of the ceremony, Modi said: “INS Vikrant is an airfield floating on water as well as a floating city.and the electricity generated in it could light up 55,000 homes, and cables can reach Kashi from Kochi.”

He stated that the deck of the carrier’s deck is about the size of two football fields, and it is an illustration of the government’s plan to make India self-sufficient even in the defense sector.

The Prime Minister stated that, despite the fact that security of the Indo-Pacific region, it is “our top priority, but in the past, it was not taken seriously”.

Modi also announced the brand new Naval Ensign, which does the dismantling with the history of the colonial past and fitting the rich Indian maritime heritage.

“Indian Naval flags” were the symbol of slavery, which was replaced with an entirely new design inspired by Chhatrapati Maharaj.

The new Naval Ensign takes an inspiration from the seal of the great Indian Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the emperor of India.It symbolizes steadfastness, and the shape of the octagonal represents the eight directions, symbolizing the navy’s multi-directional reach.” he added.

Created by the in-house Indian Navy Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a Public Sector Shipyard under the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, INS Vikrant is built with modern automation technology and is the biggest ship ever constructed in the history of maritime in India.

The indigenous carrier was named after its legendary predecessor, who played a crucial role in the war of 1971.

Seventy-five percent of the materials used in its construction was obtained locally.

According to the reports, the 262-metre carrier is capable of a total displacement of approximately 45,000 tonnes.It’s driven by four gas turbines generating an 88MW power output and has a an maximum speed of 28 knots.

The car was built at a cost of more than 20,000 crore rupees.The Keel was laid in 2009.

The ceremony of commissioning was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief of Navy R.Harikumar, the chairman and managing director of CSL Madhu S.Nair among others.
