Nasa\'s Perseverance Rover Grabs 12th Rock Sample On Mars

NASA’s Perseverance Rover has retrieved the 12th rock sample from Mars

Washington 7 August : NASA’s Perseverance rover has taken another sample from Mars to bring the total amount of samples to 12.
The car-sized Perseverance was drilled and sealed their 12th rock sample in the last week, members of the mission team announced on Twitter.

“Call them the “dusty dozen’.I’ve have 12 samples of rock cores on my board which I collected during #SamplingMars at these various locations within Jezero Crater,” the team wrote.

It’s the fourth operation in less than one month.

In the month of February in 2021, Perseverance was spotted with NASA’s small Ingenuity helicopter on the bottom of the 28-mile wide (45 kilometers) Jezero Crater, which was home to a large lake as well as an ancient river delta millions of years ago.

The six-wheeled rover is searching for evidence of the past Mars life and is bagging hundreds of samples for a possible return to the Earth as well as other tasks.

According to the team’s sample log the initial eight samples of rock Perseverance collected between September 2021 through March of this year were volcanic in the source, Space.com reported.

The four remaining that were collected between July 7 and August 3all originate from sedimentary rocks.

This suggests that Perseverance is currently exploring the remains of the delta looking at layers of rock that grew as silt was pushed out of Jezero’s river of the past.

They tend to hold organic compounds and other indications of Mars life If the planet ever existed.Perseverance officials claimed.

Perseverance is a collection of 43 tubes for samples and of which 38 of that can be filled with Martian dirt and rock according to the report.

The remaining five “witness tubes” that will help the mission team determine what substances, if any, in the samples collected may represent contaminants from Earth.

Perseverance has sealed 15 of the 43 tubes.Twelve of them contain rock cores.

while one holds Martian air and the two other are witness tubes the report said.

These tubes will be delivered to Earth through a joint NASA-European Space Agency (ESA) campaign beginning in 2033.
