Chennai 23 August : The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered the Tamil Nadu government to totally eliminate the system of order in the state within the next four months.It also instructed that the state government conduct investigations on complaints that an orderly system was still in place in the homes of higher officials as well as of the police in the state.
A bench of Justice S.M.Subramaniam, in passing the final orders directed the state government to end the practice of orderlies in accordance with the GO approved in 1979.They also ordered that the process to be carried out within a timeframe of four months following the date of the receipt of the copy of the order.
The last orders, pertaining to an application filed by an ex-police officer who was retired about the unlawful occupation of government quarters in the city of Washington, stated: “Based on the counter-affidavit filed by the fourth respondent as well as the respective commitments made by police officers The respondents are instructed to make sure that the use of the orderly system is wiped out in totality.”
The judge also ordered officials to discover the illegal occupation and take actions for eviction based on the rules of the statute and Rules in the force.
Justice Subramanian also directed higher officials, including the state Home Secretary as well as Director General of Police to resign the orderlies if they were deputed to the homes of officials, including retired officials with immediate effect.
The judge of the high court also noted an undertaking made by Tamil Nadu DGP, C.Sylendra Babu that none of the police officers deployed for security, wireless operations, or security of his residence is assigned any other job beyond the tasks they were assigned.
