San Francisco, Aug 26 : Meta-owned social media platform for sharing photos and videos Instagram has revealed that it will restrict sensitive content to new teen users on the platform.Instagram stated it was a Sensitive Content Control only offers two choices for teens- “Standard” as well as “Less”.
“New teens who join Instagram who are younger than 16 will default to the state of ‘Less.For those who are already using Instagram we will send them a message asking them to choose the ‘Less’ experience” the platform wrote in an article on its blog.
“This makes it more difficult for younger individuals to discover potentially sensitive information or accounts in Search, Explore, Hashtag Pages, Reels, Feed Recommendations and Suggested Accounts,” it added.
Additionally, Instagram said it is testing a new approach to get teens to update their privacy and safety settings.
It will display prompts that ask users to check their settings, including the ability to control who can share their content who can message them and contact them the most, what content they are able to view and how they can control their time on Instagram.
“We are constantly developing control mechanisms to help users to personalize their experience using Instagram,” the company said.
“Last the summer, we introduced the Sensitive Content Control to ensure that users could decide the amount or the amount of sensitive content they want to view in Explore for accounts they don’t follow.Today, we’re making announcements about the latest updates to this control,”” it said.
Alongside Explore users will also be capable of controlling the volume of sensitive information and accounts they view in Search, Reels, Accounts You Might Follow Hashtag Pages and in-feed recommendations.
The update will be made available to all in the coming weeks.
