San Francisco, Sep 13 : Google is leaving the laptop market and is rumored to have removed its next pixelbook and has shifted its group to different verticals.According to The Verge, the laptop was expected to be launched in the coming year, but the project “was eliminated as part of recent cost-cutting initiatives” within Google.
“Members of the team have been transferred to other parts of the company, according to the report.
The Pixelbook Go will be the final of Google’s laptops.Google’s hardware offerings currently include Pixel series of phones.
Google is likely to be working on an Pixel smartphone that folds and an updated Android Pro tablet.
The company has also revealed the launch of a Pixel Watch that is likely to be released together with Pixel 7 series smartphones at the launch event on the 6th of October.
The company first announced the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro at its I/O conference for developers in May.
Alphabet as well as Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced to reduce hiring and eliminate certain projects across the company.
“In certain instances, this involves consolidating investments where they have overlap, and streamlining procedures.
In other cases, this means stopping development and re-deploying resources to areas that are more important,” Pichai said in July.
The Pixelbook team and the Pixelbook have been the “casualties of that consolidation and redeployment”.
“Google does not share any future plans for products or information about employees; however Google is committed to creating and supporting a variety of Google products that are innovative and useful to our users,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.
