In an interview with IndieWire, director Lee Cronin expressed his initial lack of interest in creating another ‘Evil Dead’ movie in the same vein as the original cabin setting.Instead, he opted for a change, stating, “If you’re gonna change it up, you may as well go to the other end of the spectrum. The top floor of an apartment in downtown LA is about as far as you can get from a cabin in the woods without leaving the planet.”
Working with children in such an intense film brought enjoyment to Cronin. He acknowledged the positive energy and excitement they brought to the set, which elevated the spirits of the cast and crew.He emphasized the importance of being protective and understanding the needs of the young performers, working collaboratively with their parents and chaperones to ensure a comfortable and happy working environment.
‘Evil Dead Rise’ serves as the fifth installment in the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise. The series began in 1981 with the release of ‘The Evil Dead,’ followed by the sequel ‘Evil Dead 2’ and ‘Army Of Darkness.’ In 2013, the franchise was revived with a new film simply titled ‘Evil Dead,’ and subsequently, the television series ‘Ash vs.Evil Dead’ premiered in 2015.
Initially, the plan was to release ‘Evil Dead Rise’ on HBO Max as an OTT offering. However, the positive response received during test screenings prompted the filmmakers to reconsider. With a production budget ranging between $15-19 million, the movie achieved blockbuster status, amassing over $130 million worldwide.
