London 24 August : Former England captain Joe Root has insisted the team will enter the second test against South Africa at Old Trafford with the same ferocious and aggressive approach despite losing the opening game at Lord’s by 12 runs and an innings. The charismatic batter has played a crucial role with middle-order batsman Jonny Bairstow in the series of four Test victories against New Zealand and India before the juggernaut came crashing to a slow halt in the match against South Africa at Lord’s, said England were considering the loss as an opportunity for them to take the field and “play with more intent”.
“Even even though the outcome did not go the way we had hoped, and we didn’t perform in the best way that we could, it does not mean the fact that we did anything.” Root was quoted by mirror.co.uk.
“That’s been made clear to the team.In fact, it’s an chance for us to go out and play with more focus as we did at the beginning of the year. It’s another chance to return to how we played in the first four Test matches.” he added.
Root who scored 11 Test ton since the start of 2021, said he is looking forward to additional runs at Old Trafford to turn the tide against the Proteas considering that the hosts boast an impressive track record in the stadium.England have only lost one time in twenty years in Manchester.
“I personally just try to take things in the context of what they are. You’ll make mistakes from time to time or make the occasional poor shot. It’s not always going in your favor, however, you enter the game with confidence in your work. There’s nothing that will change from this perspective. It’s about being committed to the way we want to conduct ourselves and having complete trust and confidence in it.
“It is a chance to win the match of cricket.A new venue with new conditions, and most importantly an entirely new setting to demonstrate to everyone how we would like to be playing the game” he added.
