Hyderabad Traffic Joint CP AV Ranganath said the chalana discounts were announced to reduce the financial burden on the people.He was speaking to the media.
He said Rs 1,750 crore was pending with circulations across the state, adding that the announcement of the discount would bring in only Rs 300 crore.He said there should be no misconception that the government would get revenue due to traffic challans and to fill the revenue, it would have to pay the entire amount without any discount.
He said the CM KCR had come up with the idea so that the people would not be burdened financially and the revenue generated by the traffic flow was very meager.He said there would be no need for chalana if people obeyed the traffic rules and there would be no chalana discount after March 31.
He said challans worth Rs 50 crore were cleared and Rs 39 crore was collected in the first three days.He said strict action would be taken if the traffic rules were not followed from March 31.We are also making a notification on speed limits, saying that those who go at high speeds will be fined Rs 1000 and a circular is being prepared to issue speed challans depending on the vehicle.He warned that two-wheelers would be fined between Rs 200 and Rs 300 and that action would be taken if the rules were not followed.
