AP Govt To Offer Energy-efficient appliances for Jagananna houses

Andhra Pradesh leads in the implementation of PM Awas Yojana that provides houses to the people in urban areas, Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy has said.

He said the state government would provide energy-efficient electric appliances including 4 LED bulbs, 2 LED tube lights, 2 energy efficiency fans to each beneficiary of the state-run programme, Pedalandariki Illu.

“AP is the top-rated state in the country in PMAY urban.A sum of Rs 15,810 crore would be spent this year on the state government’s flagship Navaratanalu Pedalandariki Illu mega housing programme,” he said.

The Pedalandariki Illu programme that offers energy-efficient electric appliances to homes would turn the houses into eco-friendly energy savers.This would help the poor housing beneficiaries save 734 units of energy per house per annum, the CM said.

He said AP was the first state to build lakhs of houses for the homeless, with adoption of modern technologies to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

During a meeting between EESL and AP housing department officials on energy efficiency housing, the special chief secretary to housing, Ajay Jain, requested EESL to supply energy-efficient appliances at cost-effective rates to the beneficiaries of the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu scheme.

Ajay Jain said around 734 units of energy per house per annum could be saved by using energy-efficient appliances like LED bulbs, tube lights and EE fans.“It is estimated that around Rs 352 crore per annum could be saved by using energy efficient appliances in 15.6 lakh houses constructed under phase-1 of the housing scheme.”

Under the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu (NPI) programme, out of the total sanctioned 21.25 lakh houses, around 20.32 lakh (96 per cent) were grounded so far.The government has spent Rs 842 crore this financial year towards material components like cement, steel, sand and other materials and towards payment to beneficiaries,” it was stated.
