Varanasi on August 29 : Another defendant in the Shringar Gauri Gyanvapi dispute over the mosque claimed of receiving threats from international phone numbers.This comes just days following Sohan Lal Arya husband of the plaintiff in the matter, was accused of receiving threats from a number of people.
Harihar Pandey is the main plaintiff in another case filed in 1991 in connection with Gyanvapi mosque.
In a coincidental way, Arya as well as Pandey belong to the indigenous population of nearby communities within the boundaries of Luxa police station.
In the past, the another former civil judge (senior division) Varanasi, Ravi Kumar Diwakar who ordered a court-commissioned study in the case of women who want to worship Shringar Gauri was also sent an threatening letter from the Islamic Agaz Movement in June.
Station officer Luxa, Anil Sahu, said on Monday: “Pandey has lodged a complaint with us following he received threats from a number of people.We have filed an FIR under Section 507 (criminal intimidation through anonymous communications).An investigation in this matter has been initiated by the police.”
Pandey said Pandey claimed that he was contacted twice on his mobile number from different international numbers.
“Referring to Gyanvapi mosque the callers threatened not just me but all my family members would be wiped out and pictures of headless heads cut up would be displayed.The calls were then ended,” he said.
As if he were the president of Kashi Gyanvapi Abhiyukta Khshetra Nyas (trust), Varanasi, Pandey has mentioned that he is the principal plaintiff in Kashi Gyanvapi case (no 610.1991).
Pandey is the plaintiff in the case with the ancient idol Swayambhu Jyotirling Lord Visheshwarnath, Pandit Somnath Vyas and Ramrang Sharma.
The plaintiffs, Vyas and Sharma, had died in the last several years after which Pandey is the sole remaining representative in this instance.
Police officers have been stationed in his security following the confirmation of the incident, according to the SHO.
