Andhra Pradesh : 26 Engineering College Students Fall Sick due to Food poisoning

Twenty six Engineering students from SRIT Engineering College, located in Bukkarayasamudram mandal of Anantapur district, fell ill due to food poisoning within the hostel premises late on Tuesday.They were discharged after treatment.All the students are female.

According to reports, the affected students had consumed tomato rice, egg-rice and curd at night.

Shortly thereafter, the students began experiencing health complications such as vomiting and diarrhoea, prompting their immediate shift to the Amaravati hospital in Anantapur.

The college hostel housed 87 students.

All the affected 26 students were later discharged from hospital.A few other students have also reported other complications and were provided with necessary treatment at the hospital.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the food poisoning.SRIT Engineering College is owned by government adviser Aluru Sambasiva Reddy, a YSRC leader.The college was started in 2007.

In-charge of the college, S.Praveen, said the institution generally served light food to the students during nighttime, and tomato rice, egg rice, and curd as usual on Tuesday night.

Officials from the food safety, medical and health departments visited the hostel and collected samples of the curd and milk for lab analysis.
