The controversial Nellore Zilla Parishad election finally ended.The election which was already postponed twice took place yesterday and YSR Congress Party clinched ZP Chairman and deputy Chairperson posts in a lottery method.
While B Raghavendra Reddy was elected Chairman, P Sirisha was elected as vice-chairperson of the Nellore Zilla Parishat.Of the 46 ZPTCs, YSRCP contested Chairman’s post with 23 members, while with the support of YSRCP’s eight ZPTCs, the TDP got 23 seats.
It resulted in a tie among both the parties and the officials concerned announced the results after a lottery method.
After the election results, YSR Congress bagged the majority ZP members.
However TDP pinned hopes on this ZP with 6 members from YSR Congress decided to support TDP in the election.
The efforts put in by the TDP leadership, particularly Municipal Administration Minister P.Narayana, did not pay off in the final outcome.The ZP Chairman election was earlier twice postponed with the TDP obstructing the proceedings in the first instance and there was no quorum in the second instance.
The election to the ZP Vice-Chairperson and the two co-option members was also held through the draw of lots.After the win, the YSRCP cadre is in a jubilant mood and TDP cadre went to deep depression
