Telangana Minister for Agriculture, Tummala Nageswara Rao, announced that the central government has given the green signal for the construction of national highways in the state. He stated that the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway will be expanded to six lanes soon.
Additionally, the minister announced that the Vijayawada-Khammam section will be developed as a four-lane road.
The minister expressed gratitude to theChief Minister Revanth reddy , and the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, for allocating Rs 654 crore for the project.
He also mentioned that the state government has plans to develop Khammam town and its surrounding areas, including the construction of an outer ring road.
The minister’s announcement comes amid concerns over the delay in the expansion of the Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway, which has been pending due to a dispute over toll collections.
The GMR company, which was awarded the contract for the project, has not yet begun work on the expansion, citing a reduction in toll collections following the bifurcation of the state.
The delay has led to allegations of neglect and safety concerns, with some accusing the government of not taking adequate measures to prevent accidents on the highway.
The minister’s announcement is seen as a move to address these concerns and speed up the development of the region
