The BJP unit of Telangana has suspended its state vice-president Yennam Srinivasa Reddy from Mahbubnagar under suspension for alleged anti-party activities late on Sunday, 3 September. The late-night press release by the party’s state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy did not elaborate on the “anti-party” activities.
The announcement came just 24 hours before BJP’s scheduled launch of a deadline-based application process for ticket aspirants. The party would receive applications till 10 September.
Responding to the suspension order, Srinivasa Reddy said he was not served any notice.“Even those facing the gallows would be asked for his last wish.I was not contacted.I was not even intimated about the charges. It looks as though the action was taken against me based on what someone has told the party leadership,” he told media, indicating a possible conspiracy to hound him out of the party.
He was one of the seven vice-presidents appointed in 2020 by the then Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
He was given the responsibility of overseeing the party affairs in Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Wanaparthy districts.
Srinivasa Reddy did not disclose his future course of action.
When asked if he was planning to join the Congress, he said it was a figment of media’s imagination. He, however, said that he would disclose everything at a media conference on Tuesday, 5 September, in Hyderabad.
It has been speculated that he might join the Congress and contest from Mahbubnagar against Excise Minister V Srinivasa Goud.
In a four-cornered contest, Srinviasa Reddy won a byelection to the Assembly from Mahbubnagar in 2012 during the peak of the Telangana movement.
His three opponents then were: S Prakash (Congress), P Chandrasekhar (TDP), and Syed Ibrahim (TRS, now BRS).
Meanwhile, Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office headquarters in Hyderabad saw high footfall on Monday as ticket aspirants queued up to submit applications for the upcoming Assembly elections, reportedly.
On the very first day , 63 aspirants submitted around 183 applications with each candidate submitting 2-3 applications.
