Sleuths of Bhuvanagiri zone on Saturday arrested three interstate narcotics smugglers and seized 232 kg of ganja worth Rs 42 lakh from their possession.
While transporting the contraband to Maharashtra from Andhra Pradesh in a vehicle, the accused were intercepted on Thorrur road in Valigonda town.
“The peddlers had packed the contraband and had placed them in the boot of the vehicle.We seized 232 kg ganja in 114 packets worth Rs 42 lakh and the vehicle from the accused”, Bhuvanagiri zone DCP Rajesh Chandra said.
Those arrested were identified as Bajrang Srirang, Sagar Shivaji and Surya Ramdas, all natives of Maharashtra, while two of their associates, Shukra and Rambabu, are absconding, the DCP said.
The police officer stated said that search operations have been launched to nab the absconders.
The accused, along with the seized contraband, were produced before the court and the offenders were remanded to judicial custody.
Earlier, in February, the Madhapur police in Hyderabad busted an interstate drug peddling racket and arrested three persons including a woman, on Thursday.Officials seized 23.5 kg of marijuana, a car, three mobile phones and cash, altogether worth Rs.6 lakh.
According to the police, drug peddlers have been acquring Ganja from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, for Rs.2,500 per kg and sold it between Rs.15,000 to Rs.20,000 to customers in other states.
