Gaborone the 12th of September : Botswana witnessed its first ever decrease in the cost of fuel in 2022, according to the country’s energy officials. In a press release issued by the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority, the price of diesel, petrol and illuminating paraffin will drop in 1 Pula ($0.076), 0.23 pula and 0.08 per liter, according to Xinhua news agency reported.
The authority claimed that the drop was caused by the fall in oil prices in the last two months.Brent Crude was averaging $97.74 per barrel in August, compared to the average of $105.12 per barrel in July.
The energy regulator said the drop in prices for fuel was influenced mostly by fears of the possibility of a worldwide recession that could dampen the demand for oil around the world.
Four consecutive increases in the cost of fuel in the Southern African country since December 2021 have mostly contributed to the rising inflation rate that reached an all-time high of 14.30 percent in July.
