Gabrielle Union opens up about her role as a homophobic character

Los Angeles, Sep 11 : Actress Gabrielle Union faced some challenges in making her movie “The Inspection”.
In a speech in the People and Entertainment Weekly photo and video studio during the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival about the film, Union explained her difficult choice to play the character she did not connect with.

“As an actor, I usually look for characters with at least a little bit of myself in them.I didn’t see this in Inez,” she says of her character, Inez French.

The character is a prison guard who is homophobic cannot accept with her son Ellis French (Jeremy Pope) is homosexual due to of her religious beliefs.She eventually disowns the character, and sets him on an avenue towards joining the Marines.

If “The Inspection” was difficult for her to take part in as a mother of transgender daughter (Zaya 15), Union said she was initially drawn to the general “beautiful tale.”

In the end, she discovered that “my darkness was the basis of the shared space with Inez and I, which can be a very vulnerable space and to realize that I am also capable”.

“It’s unlikely to manifest in the same wayas it did in the past, but if you’re focusing on an oppressor’s view of who you have to be to be to be considered worthy of all of the things, everyone is on the cutting block.”
