New Delhi, Sep 11 : India was the only country to defy the trend of global decline in the market for smart audio sales in the second quarter (Q2) this year, with a staggering 55 percent growth.The world’s smart personal audio sales fell by 1.7 percent year on year, to 98.1 million units according to market research company Canalys.
India is the third largest market for personal audio on a smart device has seen shipments increase by a staggering 55 percent.
However, the the growth in India was not enough to offset the global fall, with the US down 1 percent as well as China down 13 percent.
TWS was the one personal audio segment to grow by 8%, with a corresponding growth in 63 million units and India is the primary driving force for the TWS growth.
“Without the impressive growth in India and its impact on the global TWS market could have been in decline,” said analyst Ashweej Aithal.
“India’s huge demand for smart personal audio equipment is available for both local and global players to access.However, vendors need to reconsider their plans in the fiercely competitive market in an increasingly difficult economic climate,” Aithal added.
Customers in India are rapidly shifting to TWS and this is causing growth in the category of wireless earphones slowing to 11.1 percent.
TWS shipment in India increased by 217.9 percent in the last seven million units.which is an 11.1% share of the world which is the highest level ever recorded.
