Mumbai 10th, September : With less than a an entire month left before the beginning of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia The Indian team is in the process of finalizing its squad.They have tried various combinations in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as certain combinations worked while others didn’t.The 2007 T20 World Cup winner Robin Uthappa has gotten involved in this debate and has suggested that Deepak Hooda should be utilized in the No.5 position in T20Is in the belief that the odds are in favor of the 27-year-old.The T20 World Cup will be held in Australia from October 16 until November 13.
Hooda is in great form since he made his T20I debut for India many experts have suggested that the cricketing allrounder is a must in the squad as he offers a possibility of taking a few of overs, too.
Uthappa stated that the No.5 position is a contest between Rishabh Pant and Hooda currently.He believes that the 27-year old is batting better and he is experiencing a positive patch in the present.
“I believe that the No.5 position is between Rishabh and Hooda.The only thing to note is that Hooda is playing better and he could offer something with the ball, just like he has done against Afghanistan.
It took him just one ball to prove he can make a difference with the ball.Uska Acha time chal hai (He is going through a positive patch) and, well you must take advantage of the opportunity,” Uthappa said on Cricinfo’s T20 Timeout.
Uthappa said that India’s track experience with Hooda in the squad has been extremely good and urged the management of the team to take a look at how he is doing currently and keep him as an intermediate order batter and also have Hardik Pandya as well as Dinesh Karthik step in as No.6 and No.7 respectively.
“In the 18 games he has played for India, India has won 16 of them.
He has lost only two games , and these are the two most recent matches.The odds are in his favor right now and they need to take into account the fact that they’re hitting so well.
Also, he is an average hitter So keep him in the middle of the order.He should be at No.5 and No.6, and at No.7.You have Hardik and Dinesh and then you have the bowlers,” said Uthappa.
