Ankara September 9 : A fire in Turkey was eventually put under control after it continued to rage for two days leading to the injury of eight people including one in serious medical condition, according Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.An estimated of 25 people were directly affected by the fire according to the Minister in an update on Twitter.
The wildfire started on Wednesday in the Gulnar district of the southern coastal province of Mersin and then spread to the district of Silifke due to strong winds also forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents, Mersin Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan told reporters.
Around 1,500 acres of forest were destroyed in the fire The deputy Agriculture and Forestry Minister Veysel Tiryaki told reporters, adding that authorities sent helicopters and water-dropping helicopters in order to put out the flames, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
An investigation into the root of the fire is ongoing, he added.
According to Tiryaki firefighters also put out a second fire in the resort province in the south of Antalya on Thursday.
