Islamabad 7 September : Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to not keep any gifts from abroad, and has ordered that all the gifts he received on his international visits be kept in the PM House, a media report said. “The premier doesn’t intend to keep any of the items that were given as gifts to him in his trips to Saudi Arabia and the UAE between April 28 and 30 2022.” According to a announcement released by the Cabinet Division, Dawn reported.
“The Prime Minister wishes that as a matter of policy that all valuable gifts be supervised by the Toshakhana, and therefore be displayed for the duration of time in the PM House.The gifts will be displayed in secure display cabinets fitted with alarm systems, and under the control of the Toshakhana.” the notice read.
The notice said that in the initial phase, five of these cabinets, one for each country, which includes Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey and China will be built to showcase the gifts that have been received from these countries, Dawn reported.
This would also include gifts Sharif received on his official visit to the UAE as well as Saudi Arabia.
The present consisted of the following items: a pair of wristwatches (A.Lange and Sohne Datograph Flyback), pair of cufflinks (Chopard) as well as a pen (Chopard) and rings (Chopard) and the Rosary (Chopard).
The PM has instructed the authorities to arrange for the display of the gifts to help educate the people with the ties of friendship with the countries that are friendly, Dawn reported.
