Chandigarh 6th Sep : In addition to the to the feathers in its cap Malerkotla and Faridkot districts in Punjab have been granted an entry in the pan-India list of certified from the Central government to provide functional household tap connections to every rural household under the Jal Jeevan Mission Har Ghar Jal.Reacting to the achievement Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday announced that eight districts were certified across all of the country by the Central government to have 100% coverage of the population with pipes for water supply.Malerkotla and Faridkot have been awarded the position within these districts.
He declared that it is an issue of pride for Punjab because two of the districts have been selected for this prestigious distinction, and in the next few days, four additional districts are likely to receive this distinction.
Mann stated that Malerkotla, with a total rural population of 2.58 lakh has provided 49,881 rural homes with drinking water piped while Faridkot with its total population of the rural area of 4.09 lakhs has provided the households of 78,408 with drinking water.
The Chief Minister stated that the state has already pipes for water supply to 34.24 lakh rural households under the Jal Jeevan Mission and a total of 11,933 villages and 20 districts are provided with 100% of the water piped to them.
Mann hopes that the state would cover 100 percent of the area of the state until December 2022, which is against the national goal of 2024.
He stated that the state has already connected taps to Aanganwadi centers, panchayats dispensaries, schools and dispensaries.
