Chandigarh 7th September : In a major gesture of relief to flood-affected residents of Fazilka district Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday directed the release of 32 crore rupees to pay the pending compensation for 2020 floods.The decision was made by Mann at a meeting that took place here.
In the course of the meeting, he bemoaned that it is regrettable that the floods resulted in a staggering destruction in the Fazilka district in 2020, but with the exception of the lip service, the government had not done anything to offer relief to the people.
Mann said that floods caused significant destruction in Abohar, Arniwala, and Jalalabad blocks of the district.
Of of the total amount of 32 crore, damage that was worth 28 crores was caused to the crops, while the rest of the Rs 4 crore of losses was attributed to other homes as well as other structures.
The Chief Minister claimed that instead of giving a helping hand to flood victims the then state government was delay in the process to make matters worse of those in trouble.
He claimed that the indifferent attitude of the government of the time was evident from the fact that not one penny was paid as compensation for the citizens.
