London 3rd Sep : The former England captain Nasser Hussain has suggested that the team should consider adding Alex Hales in the squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November.Hales hasn’t been a part of England after failing the second recreational drug test in 2019 that resulted in his being dropped out of the ODI World Cup winning squad at home .He hasn’t played in international cricket since the time.
Hales is now a sought by name in T20 franchise cricket because of his outstanding performances which included 251 runs in eight matches for Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2022, has kept him in the spotlight for an England comeback after almost three years.
However, Friday’s non-selection as well as an unfortunate lower-limb injury to Jonny Bairstow means there’s possibility for Hales to be able to return into consideration for England ahead of the T20 World Cup, which Hussain is convinced in.
“I’ve been extremely constant with Alex Hales. If you want to know who has been one of the top three or two Twenty20 players in English cricket over the past five years, it’s been Hales. We’ve all had problems in the past, but you try to forget. He committed the wrong thing, and he’s served the sentence, and He’s a great player.” added Hussain on Sky Sports.
Hussain added more details on the reasons he believes that he will be joining Hales in England’s squad for the The Men’s T20 World Cup.”I think the meeting took 3 hours to determine what they should do with Roy.They don’t even possess (Eoin) Morgan. They’ve suffered injury issues to Buttler and (Liam) Livingstone. So , do we have to let go yet another player who is experienced?”
“They’ve made the decision to take the plunge, and walked away an experienced golfer. Then Jonny Bairstow falls on an open golf course, and has gone in the leg and is contemplating whether they can go back to Roy.(Dawid) Malan (can open). We’ve seen what Malan has done.I’d recommend Malan but the only man they shouldn’t eliminate is Alex Hales.”
This past Friday England men’s director Rob Key had revealed that Hales was calling him and was arguing for his recall to international cricket with the men’s T20 World Cup selection.”From the things we’ve discussed there’s been no issue as regards us.We were able to discuss the form. And I even talked to Alex Hales. He called me in fact and he explained the reason he was not there, and I think he was right.”
“I prefer it when people dial the phone and ask, “come on and tell me why I wasn’t there in the first place?’ I have a lot of respect for that , as opposed to those who sit behind the scenes ranting about how they’re not selected for something. It’s an unfortunate moment in which there’s plenty of many of extremely talented players.”
“People claim it’s a great problem to be faced with, but it’s not easy with who you choose as batter in this type of white-ball cricket since there are numerous choices. There are plenty of people who’ve failed to make it through who might have asked ‘why I’m not in ?’.”
