Hyundai, Kia global sales increase in August despite a shortage of chips

Seoul 1st, September : Hyundai Motor, the biggest carmaker in South Korea announced on Thursday that its sales grew by 12 percent in August compared to the previous year despite a long-running shortage of chip.
The sales of its subsidiary Kia increased by 10% this month compared to one year ago, despite a long-running shortage of chips.

Hyundai sold an overall of 334,794 cars in August, an increase from 300,004 units earlier, due to the high demand overseas for Hyundai’s models the company announced in an announcement.

Domestic sales dropped 3.5 percent to 49,224 units from 51.034 during the same time frame, while overseas sales rose 15% to 285,570 from 248,970 according to Yonhap news agency.

To boost sales in the second halfof the year, Hyundai announced that it will launch the IONIQ6 all-electric model, as well as other models in the world market.

The IONIQ 6 is the second model that is integrated with Hyundai Motor Group’s electric-global modular platform that is EV-only (E-GMP) in the wake of the IONIQ 5 launched in April this year.

Hyundai plans to launch the platform-based IONIQ 7 SUV in 2024.For its electric model, Hyundai uses alphanumeric names as its larger competitors, like BMW which has models called Series No.1-8.

Hyundai has set a goal for sales of 4.32 million units this year, which is higher than 3.89 million units sold last year.

In the meantime, Kia sold a total of 239,887 vehicles in August, a rise from 217,226 units just a year ago due to the strong demand from overseas for SUVs.

Kia hopes to sell 3.15 million vehicles across the globe this year.
