Delhi: L-G seeks reasons that could be the cause of the decline in enrollment in government schools

New Delhi, Aug 29 : In observing the data that was published in the Economic Survey 2021-2022 of Delhi government regarding the decrease in enrollment of students in the public schools and the significant absence of students despite the huge expenditures on education The L-G Secretariat has written to the Chief Secretary to investigate the reasons for the irregularities.
“The L-G Secretariat has written with the facts with copies of the Economic Survey asking the Chief Secretary to investigate the causes in greater public interest and then put up an announcement to this effect to be reviewed by the L-G on the priority,” said a Lt.Governor (L-G) office source on Monday.

It has expressed concern that despite the investment on education that is being made by the Delhi government, which increased from 6,145.03 crore in 2014-15 to 11,081.09 crore in 2019-20 There is a decrease in the number of new students enrolled.

Even as the per pupil annual expenditure of the government increased from 42,806 in 2015-16 to the figure of Rs 66,593 in 2019-20 the total number of students in the government schools in Delhi state-run schools decreased from 15.42 lakh in 2014-15 to 15.19 lakh in 2019-20.

In the same way the proportion of students who attend classes in Delhi school run by the government has varied from 55 to 61 per cent from 2017 and 2022, indicating an absence rate in the region of around 6 lakh kids not regularly attending school according to the data.
