As the pandemic demonstrates how important it is of being healthy and fit, Apple is creating devices and services with “science-based technology” that provides users with greater information, and serves as a smart guardian of their health, “so they are no longer a passenger in their own health journey” according to Jeff Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Apple.
The company is drawn to this field not just because of the chance to improve the human health but “because we are driven by our beliefs to dedicate our resources, talent and knowledge to areas where we can make the greatest impact.”
“We believe strongly that technology has the potential to play an important role in making improvements to health outcomes and assisting people to lead healthier lives,” he said in an earlier Apple Health report.
The Cupertino-based firm said that its APIs for application programming (APIs) allow third-party developers to design new solutions that encourage healthy lifestyles and new ideas in health.
“There are currently 10s of thousands of apps available on the App Store that utilize our HealthKit API, which means they can use data that users decide to share through the Health app to provide unique health and fitness options with strict security and privacy procedures,” according to the report.
With the permission of the user with their permission, these apps are able to provide information to the Health app.
Apple recently partnered with Stanford University in the US to develop the Apple Heart Study which was the first of its kind in the medical field and the largest clinical study of virtual heart during its time.
“It opened the way for Apple’s partnership with several of the world’s top institutions to develop three first-of-its-kind research studies that will advance the research on women’s health hearing health and heart health and other areas,” said the report.
Health institutions are making use of Apple devices frameworks, APIs, and frameworks to enhance the relationship between doctors and patients with important data, and allow care from any location.
In the report health organizations and insurance companies across the globe have collaborated with Apple to incorporate Apple Watch in their wellness programs to promote healthier behaviors and improve the quality of health on a large scale.
“Our work is mostly divided into two categories that include personal health and fitness features on Apple Watch and iPhone, and the work we’re conducting with medical professionals to help fund research and healthcare,” said Williams.
