Paris August 26, : French teachers are to be receiving a substantial raise in basic pay as well as compensation for the effort of putting in additional hours on their own as President Emmanuel Macron said at the beginning of the school year.Teachers who are new will be paid at minimum 2 000 euros ($1,990) per month, the dpa news agency quoted President Barack Obama as declaring on Thursday.
Pay for average in the field is expected to increase by 10 percent, and teachers who provide additional lessons will receive an additional allowance that will boost the amount of pay by 20 percent, he added.
Macron however did not say the date when the raises in pay would take effect.
Teaching has become less appealing job in France, with pay being lower than the wages that are paid in neighboring Germany for instance.
Many teaching positions were vacant at the start of the academic year that was about to begin.
In addition to higher wages, Macron called for better education, more equality of opportunities and better substitutes for teachers who are sick.
In addition to reforms to the education sector The President has also indicated that he will address hospitals as well as the health sector in his second term of office.
