Berlin 25th August : Berlin, Aug 25 : German Cabinet has approved more severe state intervention measures in anticipation of the expected new wave of coronavirus illnesses this autumn.These include the compulsory wear of FFP2 masks for aircrafts and trains that travel long distances across the country as reported by the news agency dpa.
Children between the of the ages of 6 and 14 and staff will also be able to wear medical-related masks.
Masks will be mandatory in nursing homes and clinics across Germany and evidence of positive Covid test is required prior to entry.
The states of the federal government can apply additional protection requirements from October 1 through April 7, based on the severity of infection.
They include the compulsory wear of masks when traveling on local trains and buses and in other public indoor areas.
There will be an exemption to the requirement to wear a mask in the event of positive test results when going to events that are cultural, recreational or sporting events or in restaurants.
Additionally, exceptions to the requirement for masks may be granted with proof that the person is fully vaccinated and has recovered.
The proposed rules are based on an idea that was formulated by Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) earlier this month.
Lauterbach told reporters Wednesday that “With this suite of instruments, we are able to manage the corona wave that is expected to occur in the autumn.”
States would be given the chance to modify the measures if needed.
He stated that the purpose of Covid’s Covid policy is to prevent excessive death rates, numerous lost work days, and the severe long-term consequences.
The version that was approved by the Cabinet is now going to the Bundestag which is expected to be approved on the 8th of September.
The Bundesrat or the upper house of parliament must also sign off on the approval.
Covid regulations were reduced in size in the spring.
A general requirement for masks in shops , as well as access restrictions for public events were relaxed at the time.
