Guwahati 24 Aug : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday took off at the Assam government’s decision to combine the schools with zero percentage of passing in the Class 10 exams with other schools with higher scores. “Closing of schools is not the solution.
We need to start a lot of new schools throughout the nation.Instead of closing schools, make the schools better and provide a quality education.” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been contemplating action against the schools that had a zero percent of pass rate in High School Leaving Certificate and Assam High Madrassa exams this year.
The government has begun taking measures against 34 provincial and government schools, as well as 57 recognised venture schools with zero percent of students passing in the HLSC and SHM exam this year.
As of now, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is an RSS-affiliated students outfit together with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the Assam Sahitya Sabha, opposed the Sarma government’s plan to extend the learning of sciences and maths subject matter in English medium, starting in the age of 3 until Class 10 in all schools run by the government.
In an official statement, ABVP said that it is against the government’s decision because it is against the mother language.”The decision to use English as a means of instruction of instruction is in violation of National Education Policy. As per the National Education Policy, the medium of instruction from primary to university must be in the language of the region,” the statement said.
In a petition for the reverse of the government’s decision it stated: “Teaching science and maths in English could pose an affront to the Assamese language.”
