Thiruvananthapuram on the 24th of August : Anil Antony, the older son of former Defence Minister A.K.Antony is expected to run in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.Although the elections aren’t over in the future, the major participants – the ruling CPI-M-led Left as well as the opposition led by Congress – have begun the process of choosing candidates for the next election.
While the Left particularly the CPI-M has made a decision to form grassroots committees prior to the start of the elections however, the Congress is using a different approach by releasing the names of likely candidates first.
The 81-year old Antony – who is the longest-serving Defense Minister in the country was in the country for months ago when he said goodbye to Delhi politics.
Even though he has returned to his home in the city, he is rarely seen at Congress gatherings.
When Antony decided to quit there was a debate about whether he will present his son Anil who, at the time of the April 2021 Assembly elections was the head of the IT cell at the state Congress party’s headquarters.
The sources in the loop of things indicate that Anil will be playing on the home ground of Antony Antony Alappuzha.
Out of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections The Congress won all except for the Alappuzha seat.
To speed up Anil’s bid to the Alappuzha seat, he is all set to be included in the state party’s organization structure, which will be reconstituted in the near future.
In addition the famous Congress leader K.Karunakaran’s son currently the Vadakara Lok Sabha member K.Muraleedharan, first got an election slot in 1989.During the time, he often used to call his son’s name when he was in the bathroom.
Another Congress veteran, twice the former Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen is a candidate to 2024’s Lok Sabha seat and is interested in the Pathanamthitta seat.
If the sons of veterans win seats, it is for certain, there will be plenty of washing dirty laundry in public.This is a characteristic that a lot of the party’s leaders have.
