Kiev 24 Aug : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held an online meeting of hundreds of world leaders in order to get supporters for the return of the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia was able to annex in 2014.The summit, dubbed Crimea Platform, is Ukraine’s second attempt to gain international support for reclaiming the Black Sea peninsula from Russia According to dpa news agency.
“A area of paradise was transformed into a depressing and dependent region – an area of high fences barbed wire, lawlessness, and barbed wire,” Zelensky told the videoconference.
“Citizens of Crimea as well as in Crimea.
I am sure that Crimea is with Ukraine and is waiting for us to return.I want to assure you that We will definitely return.”
The President stated that once Ukraine is able to regain control of Crimea it will be able to fix “everything that was done by the occupiers in the Crimean peninsula” in various areas and restore justice, according to Ukrayinska Pravda.
According to Zelensky, “the degradation of Russia began with the seizing of Crimea, with the terror felt by Crimean Tatars Crimean Tatar people” and the oppression of the Muslim community.
“In order to end terror, and restore predictability and peace in our region, Europe, and the entire world We must prevail against Russian aggression.It is imperative to free Crimea from the shackles of Russian occupation.
It will end right there at the point the place where it all began.This will be a successful revive of the legal system of international law,” he added.
Speaking at the summit via video, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged that the war has evolved into “a brutal war of attrition” as reported by the DPA news agency.
“This is a fight of wills and a war of logistics.Therefore, we need to maintain the support we offer Ukraine for the long-term to ensure that Ukraine is able to prevail as a sovereign and independent nation.” he said.
German Cancellor Olaf Scholz said his country is planning to deliver over 500 million euros ($499.3 million) in additional weapons, noting that Kiev is set to receive three more IRIS T air defence systems, 12 armored recovery vehicles, and 20 missile launchers mounted on pickups.
While the majority of are expected to be handed over in 2023, Scholz said some will arrive “significantly earlier”.
“The world community will not accept Russia’s illegal imperialist acquisition of Ukrainian territorial territory,” Scholz said to participants at the summit, called the Crimea Platform.
Polish President Andrzej Duda, who travelled to meet Zelensky in person during the forum, stated: “Crimea was and is as much as a part of Ukraine as Gdansk or Lublin is part of Poland in the same way that Nice is part of France, Cologne is an integral part of Germany and Rotterdam is part of the Netherlands.”
He also demanded the abolition of the Baltic Sea gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, Nord Stream 2 as reported by Polish media outlet PAP.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, whose country enjoys good relations with Russia Erdogan also stated that Crimea was clearly part of Ukraine.
The outgoing UK Premier Boris Johnson said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is planning to do to other regions of Ukraine in fact all of Ukraine the same thing that he is doing to Crimea.”
