Hyderabad 23rd August : A Hyderabad court on Tuesday sent BJP legislator Raja Singh to judicial custody for 14 days over negative remarks about the Prophet Muhammad.Raja Singh, who was arrested on Tuesday morning, was brought before in Nampally Criminal Court amid tight security and heightened tension due to protests from his supporters as well as those who oppose to his arrest.
Police were forced to resort to baton charge to disperse two groups that were chanting slogans in opposition to each one.
The Fourteenth Additional Metropolitan Magistrate has remanded Raja Singh to judicial custody for two weeks.He could be transferred to Chanchalguda Central Prison.
The legislator of Telangana Assembly was arrested in the morning following huge protests from Muslims at various locations in Hyderabad demanding firm and immediate action against him.
Police filed instances against Raja Singh at various police stations in Hyderabad and other areas of Telangana.At the Mangalhat police station he was detained in violation of Indian Penal Code sections 153-A (promoting animosity between various groups on account of religion) 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts designed to smack religious sentiments of any kind by disrespecting its religious or other beliefs) 505 (2) (making publication or circulating any report or statement that contains rumours or alarming information with intention to create or foster feelings of hatred and enmity) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The MLA was detained in the Bahadurpura, Dabeerpura and Balanagar police stations in Hyderabad and in Sangareddy and Nizamabad districts.
Raja Singh on Monday night posted an image on Facebook making derogatory remarks about the Prophet, which triggered an outrage in the public.
Scores of Muslims protesters gathered at the police commissioner’s office , and at various police stations on the night of Monday.The protesters demanded action immediately against Raja Singh.
The protesters were placed in preventive custody and taken to different police stations.
Protests took place at Bahadurpura, Bhavani Nagar, Nampally, Dabeerpura and other areas.
The leaders of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) filed grievances against the BJP MLA at a variety of police stations, including Dabeerpura police station.
Raja Singh was taken into preventive custody on Saturday for threat to disrupt comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show.
The show of comedian Munawar Faruqui was staged under tight security.
The BJP MLA, who complained that the comedian had insulted Hindu gods in a video, shared the video on Facebook last night , claiming that it was a comedy video that resembled Faruqui’s comedy.The post was then deleted.
Raja Singh, who allegedly repeated the insulting remarks made by the former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma He denied that he did not insult the opinions of anyone in any group.
He claimed it was a comedy clip directed at Faruqui.
Taken note of Raja Singh’s actions The BJP has suspended him on Tuesday and ordered the reason the reason he should not be removed out of the party.
Following the protestsin Hyderabad, police increased security in Hyderabad and in other areas of the state as precautionary measures.Additional police were deployed, and police increased patrols in vulnerable areas to ensure any unintentional incident.
Retailers in different parts of the city’s old part as well as in Nampally, Mallepally and other areas, shut their shutters in protest of actions against the MLA.
The opening of an upcoming flyover in Chandrayangutta was also delayed.Minister of the municipal administration K.T.Rama Rao was scheduled to officially inaugurate the flyover.
