Srinagar 22 August : The former chief minister and National Conference (NC) president Dr.Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that the decision to grant the right to vote to people who are not locals in Jammu and Kashmir elections will be opposed by all opposition political parties.In a press conference at the conclusion of the all-party meeting on Monday at his high-security Gupkar street home in Srinagar, Abdullah said, “They are saying the new voters will be around 25 lakhs.The figure could be as high as 50 lakhs, 60 lakhs or one crore.There isn’t any specificity on this.
“Once voting rights are granted to non-locals in J&K all of the state’s assets, except the name of the state would disappear.
“We have taken the decision that the choice to grant the right to vote to people who are not locals will be resisted and resisted by everyone of us.
“The second aspect that is the most significant, is that a lot of political parties haven’t been given security here.What is the government’s plan to protect non-local workers in the event that they become vulnerable? Any decision on this issue must be considered carefully,” he said.
The people who attended the all-party gathering in alongside the Dr.Abdullah and his son, Omar Abdullah include Mehbooba Mufti of PDP, Vikar Rasool Wani, the president of J&K Congress committee, Vice President of the party’s J&K unit Raman Bhalla, Yusuf Tarigami of CPI-M, Muzzafar Ahmad Shah of Awami National Conference Narinder Singh Khalsa of the Akali Dal, and Manish Sahni, the president of Shiv Sena’s J&K unit.Sahni is part of the Uddhav Thackeray group of Shiv Sena.
