Islamabad 20 August : Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to ensure peace in the region, but he also said that a sustainable peace in South Asia was linked to the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir issue in conformity with the UN resolutions and the desires of Kashmiris and that absolutely none less of it would be successful. “We would like to have a peace for the long term with India by way of dialogue, as conflict isn’t an option for any of the two countries,” The News quoted the premier saying during a discussion with a group of students from Harvard University.
Sharif said Sharif said that Islamabad as well as New Delhi should have competition in trade, economy , and improving the living conditions of their inhabitants.
Pakistan is not an aggressor however its nuclear assets and its professionally trained army serve as deterrents, he said, adding: “We spend on our army to defend our borders and not for the purpose of aggression.” The News reported.
The group was comprised of students from a variety of backgrounds as well as academic backgrounds.
The Prime Minister greeted students and engaged in an open discussion about the contemporary problems Pakistan faced today.
In response to a question regarding Pakistan’s economy and the IMF program, the prime minister declared that the country’s economic woes result from structural issues as well as with unstable political conditions in the last few years.
He said that the first few years following the establishment of Pakistan saw a rapid development across all sectors of the economy.There were plans, a national will and a mechanism for implementation to achieve results.
“Overtime we lost the advantage in areas in which we had a lead.The absence of energy, focus and policy actions led to a decline in the productivity of our nation.”
