Panaji 18 August : Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday stated organic farming was the necessity of the moment and there is a need to shift back to organic farming in order to provide nutritious and healthy food. “In the early days there was no fertilisers in farming, but instead made the best use of organic manure.
It is imperative to return to natural farming in order to produce food that is healthy and pure,” Sawant said during an event held at Mapusa in North Goa.
He stated that the government would assist farmers in every aspect to help boost organic farming.
Sawant stated that in certain areas of the state people were cultivating organically and pointed to the instance of “boiled rice” from Chorao being shipped to the US.
“It is a very moment of pride for us.Jackfruit originates from Goa is organic in nature, and the gGovernment has encouraged research and development,” Sawant said.
He called on co-operative institutions to explore organic farming collectively to ensure that they can provide nutritious food to the population.
“This will promote cooperative farming and increase the number of cooperatives in the state.”
