Indian Army chief gets invitation to go to Nepal in September

Kathmandu 15 August : The Nepal government has decided to issue an official invitation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army, General Manoj Pande to visit the Himalayan nation next month.
Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the armies of the two countries that border each other will choose the best time for the visit.

The COAS will be awarded with an honorary title of Nepali Army by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari in accordance with the long-standing tradition of cooperation between Nepalese as well as Indian armies.

The highest rank is awarded to the commanders of the military of each other is a custom Nepal as well as India have been following since 1950, when Indian Army Chief General KM Cariappa visited Nepal.

The Nepali Chief of Army Staff General Prabhuram Sharma via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had already offered his Indian counterpart to come to Kathmandu from September 5-8.

However, the date has still to be finalized.

In November of last year COAS Sharma was awarded the title of General of the Indian Army from then Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.
