Beijing 13 Aug : China has sanctioned Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Agne Vaiciukeviciute for a trip to Taiwan, a autonomous democratic island of Taiwan.Vaiciukeviciute had violated the “one-China principle” and shrewdly interfered in Beijing’s inner affairs, and harmed the sovereignty of the country and its territorial integrity, the dpa news agency reported the Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying on Friday.
It didn’t specify exactly what sanctions the company was imposing in detail , but it did say that all kinds of exchanges with the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications would also be suspended.
Despite current tensions Vaiciukeviciute was in Taipei on the 7th of August to pay an official visit.
Following a trip to Taiwan by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, China has been conducting massive military exercises around Taiwan from last week.which includes practicing a possible invasion.
Beijing also issued unspecified sanctions to Pelosi “and relatives of her”.
The Chinese leadership is against official contacts from other nations with Taiwan because it views Taiwan as a an integral part of its own territory.
On the other side, Taiwan has long regarded Taiwan as an independent country.
Tensions have also erupted in the relationship between Lithuania as well as China in recent months.
Beijing has lowered its diplomatic relations with the Baltic EU state after it permitted Taiwan to establish an office representative in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital Vilnius under its own name, not following a formula imposed by Beijing or a formula such as Chinese Taipei or simply Taipei.
